Advert Break – Harry Brown is coming for you in cinemas today!

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 11, 2009

poster

Set in modern-day Britain, HARRY BROWN follows one man’s (Sir Michael Caine) journey through a chaotic world where drugs are the currency of the day and guns run the streets. A modest law-abiding citizen, Harry Brown is a retired Marine and a widower who lives alone on a depressed housing estate. His only company is his best friend Leonard (David Bradley). When Leonard is murdered by a gang of thugs, Harry feels compelled to act and is forced to dispense his own brand of justice. As he bids to clean up the run-down estate where he lives, his actions bring him into conflict with the police, led by investigating officer DCI Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and Charlie Creed-Miles.

Sir Michael goes back to his bad ass ‘Get Carter’ roots by the look of the trailer and the clips I’ve seen so far for this. Anyway the film is hitting the flicks today folks if you want to check it out!

Here are a few clips to get you started.

Clash of the Titans Trailer

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 11, 2009

I have found memories of  going to see the original Clash of the Titans film at cinema as a kid (Yes I even loved the Clockwork Owl). When they announced they were doing a remake I thought ok so long as it keeps the same epic vibe I got from the original film.

I  thought, after watching this first trailer,  that this definitely has that epic vibe to it  and felt like it had taken the look of Gladiator and bought it into the Clash of the Titans universe.

My only two problems?  the tag line and the trailer music. You give me all these epic scenes and then stick on this cheap ass rock sound track (so you couldn’t nick some backing music from the hundreds of fantasy film trailers out there?). Also the ‘Titans will Clash” really? it made it sound like this was a trailer for some WWF rematch.

Despite those missteps (please someone in internet land give me a new mashup with some decent backing music) I really liked the look of the trailer.

Kick Ass – The Trailer

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 11, 2009

I’m a big fan of the Kick Ass comic by Mark Millar (still got one more issue to read) and if the film lives up to half of the fun I got from watching that trailer then I’m going to be one happy comic geek.

Gyllenhaal finds the ‘Source’

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 9, 2009

No sooner had I stuck up the trailer for the Prince of Persia last week and now it seems Jake Gyllenhaal is on the hunt for his next film.

Jake will be stepping into the sci-fi genre if the negotiations for him to  star in the sci-fi thriller “Source Code”  are successful.

According to Variety the film will center on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it.

Now the premise isn’t clear but if the character will be reliving the same day again and again(or is it just the once I’m not sure) until he solves the crime then that reminds me of the TV show ‘Daybreak’ starring Taye Diggs.

Daybreak was cancelled after one season but I thought it had a lot of potential so I hoping I’m right about Source Code  sharing certain similarities.

Angelina Jolie stars in ‘Salt’ – Trailer

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 7, 2009

Angelina Jolie stars in Columbia Pictures’ Salt, a contemporary espionage thriller. Before becoming a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor, and country. She will prove loyal to these when a defector accuses her of being a Russian sleeper spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture, protect her husband, and stay one step ahead of her colleagues at the CIA.

Ok I thought the trailer looked kick ass and remined me a little of the Fugitive meets Bourne. It’s got a top notch cast and the premise is solid. The only think that had me making the ‘Huh’ face was the name…Salt seriously that’s what yo’re calling the film Slat. It doesn’t really scream action Thriller to me.

The film’s not out until next summer so the name has time to grow on me.

Sherlock Holmes – Third Trailer

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 6, 2009

I know there are a lot of folks that aren’t going to like this film but for me I’m just seeing it as a different take on the Sherlock Holmes character and I can live with that.Like I keep saying if it doesn’t work when I see the film I’ll just stick on my Jeremy Brett DVD’s.

This new trailer just look like some good old fashioned pulp fun. I mean come on two dudes swordfighting on what looks like a half finished London Bridge what’s not to like? (granted I said the same thing when I saw the trailer for League of Extraordinary Gentleman)

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 4, 2009

How Holmes are you?

Players can immerse themselves in the world of the new Sherlock Holmes movie with unique, free to all, on-line adventure at www.221B.sh

London, 4th November 2009 – To celebrate release of the motion picture Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled the unique two-player on-line experience “221B.”   The adventure is to be played in the eight weeks leading up to the launch of the movie across the UK on Boxing Day, 26th December 2009.

In “221B,” players team up as Holmes and Watson, who together will chase villains, interact with other characters from the movie, explore locations and make deductions as they journey through eight chapters of intrigue and mystery, concluding in a segue into the start of the movie.  Played online, free of charge to all, the rich audio-visual experience brings alive the 1890s London of Guy Ritchie’s film by blending cutting-edge technology, exquisite design and a world of unique content, drawn from exclusive access granted to the cast, crew and locations during the making of the movie itself.  It will also allow fans a special preview look into the world of “Sherlock Holmes” prior to its worldwide in-cinema debut.

Sue Kroll, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Worldwide Marketing, said: “Due to the iconic stature of Sherlock Holmes across the globe, we wanted to offer moviegoers the opportunity to enter Holmes’ world.  In addition to seeing the movie’s trailers and other content, fans can actually interact as one of the main characters and test the same skills that Holmes and Watson need in the movie, using the most stunning new technology available.”

“221B,” named after Sherlock Holmes’ famous house on Baker St, London, uses Facebook integration to allow players to share their successes with their network of friends as they progress through the game, and includes a series of firsts. These include an innovative natural language processing system which allows players to interrogate suspects by putting their own questions to characters in the game, and interactive crime scenes created using 3D Photosynth visualizations, where players can zoom in to see the smallest of details and find crucial hidden pieces of evidence.  Action-loving players will also be able to chase thugs, pick locks and follow trails in a range of Flash mini-challenges designed to test their dexterity and puzzle-solving skills.

About the movie

In a dynamic new portrayal of Conan Doyle’s famous characters, “Sherlock Holmes” sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge.  Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.  Robert Downey Jr. brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before.  Jude Law stars as Holmes’ trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes.  Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective.  Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood.  Kelly Reilly plays Watson’s love interest, Mary.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Silver Pictures Production, in association with Wigram Productions, a Guy Ritchie Film, Sherlock Holmes.  With a screenplay by Michael Robert Johnson and Anthony Peckham and Simon Kinberg, screen story by Lionel Wigram and Michael Robert Johnson, the film is directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin.  Michael Tadross and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.

Sherlock Holmes will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Even before I got the press release through for this game I had already signed up for it after haveing been summoned to 221b by email. I’m currently waiting for my trusty sidekick to join the fray(may end up choosing a new one at this rate) what I’ve seen so far has been very impressive and immersive. I’ll give you a full run down on what I thought of the game once I start playing and really get my teeth into it.

I think it’s a pretty cool way to promote the upcoming film. I hope other film companies are taking note.

Green Zone – Trailer

Posted by geeksyndicate on November 4, 2009

GREEN ZONE – March 12th 2010

Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) re-team for their latest electrifying thriller in Green Zone, a film set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War when no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences.

During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission.

Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.

I loved the Bourne films so anything which involved greengrass and Matt Damon back together doing another action thriller then I’m definitely going to give this a look-see. I thought the trailer looked good with a lot of cool set pieces back up with a a solid plot.

Seriously though is Jason Issacs ever going to play a good guy?

2012 – Clips and Images

Posted by geeksyndicate on October 29, 2009

Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. 2012 is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Seriously the more I see of this film the more I can’t wait to give it a watch. Sure it’s going to be cheesy and I’ll probably be able to predict the dialogue and plot before I hear and see it but that’s what I expect in my disaster flicks. Who knows this one may prove me wrong and  throw out some stuff I wasn’t expecting but to be honest so long as they give me tidal waves, volcanoes erupting, whole cities collapsing, epic presidential speeches and last minute escapes then I’ll be happy.

Take a look at this clip  and see what you think.

Man oh man do I love a disaster movie.

The film hits UK cinema screens on 13th November.
