GS Exclusive – Primeval Co-creator, Adrian Hodges, talks to GS about it’s renewal and future

Posted by geeksyndicate on September 29, 2009

As pretty much the whole net knows now Primeval has been renewed in deal between ITV1 and the digital channel Watch.

I was always sad to see Primeval go as I thought it was fun family adventure series with some great ideas which still had a lot of mileage left in it.

I got in contact with series co-creator Adrian Hodges about the news. Adrian not only confirmed the news but  wanted to thank all the fans out there who have supported the show. He also talked about the future of the show. This is what he had to say (Spoiler warning for the series three finale).

Obviously I’m thrilled to be back with the new series of Primeval. Things were looking bleak for a while there and obviously I was bitterly frustrated to leave things as they were. I’m delighted to be able to continue where we left off, and to finally get Connor and Abby out of that tree! Clearly the story of how they and Danny make it back from the past is going to be a key component of the new storylines.

Obviously it’s early days in terms of storylining and there’s not too much I can say about that yet – for the time being I’m just very happy to be back planning the show. We were overwhelmed by how much affection and support was expressed for Primeval when news of its initial cancellation broke, and without that suport from the fans I don’t think we could have got this new deal off the ground.

Obviously we’ll be continuing and concluding some old storylines in the new series, but also starting new ones, and we’ll be introducing new characters in due course to join the existing cast.

What pleases me most is that the new financial arrangements have guaranteed that the show’s budget remains uncompromised, and we can guarantee the same level of special effects and action.

Thanks to Adrian for talking to us and we look forward to seeing series four in early 2011

Press Release – Halloween Man

Posted by geeksyndicate on September 28, 2009

hm_tpb_cover_

Imagine a world filled where every piece of pulp fiction is true. Where superheroes fly through the sunlit sky and terrifying creatures go bump in the night. Where flying cars, robots and time travel are commonplace, and ancient evils plot to rise again. This is Solar City, Texas – home to a heroic monster and the brilliant woman by his side.

Halloween Man is a 21st Century Beauty and the Beast story that brings together the most amazing aspects of horror, superheroes, and science fiction. Come along for the ride, and meet our outlandish cast: There’s Dr. Lucy Chaplin, a sex kitten of a mad scientist, Man-Goat, a superhero with the power of a Man-Sized Goat, and Morlack, an aged wizard turned beatnik.

All of whom pale in comparison to Solomon Hitch, the Halloween Man himself. A misunderstood monster with the power of the horror movie sequel, this hero has a heart of gold, and a taste for living flesh. Still, with his friends at his side he might just beat back the bad guys – and everyone else in his way.

Halloween Man – Superdeformed includes brand new stories and some of the best loved tales from the popular webcomic. Written by Drew Edwards, featuring art by Nicola (Birds of Prey, Secret Six) Scott, Benjamin (Dead@17: Protectorate) Hall and David (Nomad: Girl Without A World, Blue Beetle) Baldeón. Cover by Nicola Scott with Terry Parr.

Press Release – Time Bomb Comic at BICS 2009

Posted by geeksyndicate on September 28, 2009

TIME BOMB COMICS AT BICS 2009

It’s that time again!

Leicester-based Time Bomb Comics will once again be exhibiting at BICS, and will be marking the occasion with the release of the 100-page original graphic novel The Furies, written by Steve Tanner with artwork by Andrew Dodd.

A release quite literally more than twenty years in the making, The Furies is a dark apocalyptic tale of the nature of belief and is one of the earliest stories the two creators worked on together. Revised and expanded (imagine a director’s cut of a movie that was never properly released in the first place!) The Furies is the first graphic novel to be released from the two year old company.

Time Bomb Comics will also have previews available of a few of their forthcoming projects including:

Bomb Scares – An anthology that promises disturbing horror stories in a twisted vein, featuring work from brand new talent such as Katja Lindblom and Rachele Aragno to established creators Gary Crutchley and Shane Oakley.

London Calling – Ealing Studios meets Hammer Horror in a uniquely British one-shot featuring art by well-known “Commando” artist Keith Page.

Primetime – An outrageous murder mystery in a media-obsessed future city where everyone wants their fifteen minutes of fame, written by Steve Tanner with art from talented newcomer Paul Thompson.

Of course, all of Time Bomb Comics previous one-shot releases will be available at BICS 2009 too, including their full-colour one-shot The Sisterhood by Steve Tanner and Dan Barritt. Released at the Bristol Expo earlier this year, The Sisterhood was described by respected British comics news site downthetubes.net as being “easily on a par with some of the best of the early 2000AD stories.”

Last but not least, Time Bomb Comics will also be looking for new talent for future projects and will be more than happy to speak with any aspiring writers and artists over the entire weekend.

See you at BICS 2009!

Burke and Hare Graphic Novel – The Trailer

Posted by geeksyndicate on September 25, 2009

I’ve seen a lot of people attempt to do trailers for their comics with varying levels of success. This trailer for the Burke and Hare graphic novel definitely shows the right way to go about it. Atmospheric music and a great use of the imagery from the graphic novel helps to drawn you into murderous world of Burke and Hare.

I’m about half way through the graphic novel. It’s very interesting read and entertaining read so far. I also think it’s great example of reinforcing the point that comics are a medium not a genre as this is very different from a lot of the comics I would usually read.

The graphic novel will be launched at next week’s British International Comic Show. If the rest of the book is anything to go by this will definitely be worth checking out.

Look out for my full review soon on the podcast.

Dog Judo? Yep you heard right

Posted by geeksyndicate on September 25, 2009

Now when I got the info sent on this new animated series called Judo Dogs my first thought was not wow I much what this…that was until I watched the first clip.

I then realised this was series two and I went in search of series one and found some clips on good old youtube.

This won’t be for everyone and I can’ t tell you why I was laughing so hard after the second clip. Maybe  it was Dogs in Judo suits, maybe it was the cockney banter that reminded me of quite a few of my London mates. One thing I can tell you is that when this new series starts I’m all over it.

Check the press release below for more info

Series 2 of ‘The Hunter’ coming soon from Dare Comics

Posted by geeksyndicate on September 25, 2009

The guys over at Dare Comics have been busy since they finished The Hunter. Not only is comic soon to be available on the iPhone and iPlayer but a second series  is scheduled to launch in spring 2010. This next series will be set in the world of organized crime and international drug trafficking.

The Hunter has now been read by over 120,000 readers thanks to come clever marketing and distribution by the Dare Comics team.

I reviewed the comic series Hunter some time ago on the podcast and I loved it, as did Dave. It reminded me of the tv show ‘24’ but with an added superhero touch. Both the writing and art were top notch and I’d definitely say it was worth checking out.

You can have a read of the first issue of The Hunter below.
