Review: Judge Dredd The Complete Case Files 11 & 12

Posted by geeksyndicate on April 30, 2009

This is the second of my  Nostalgia reviews except that by the time the issues reprinted into vol. 11 & 12 came about, I was no longer a regular reader of 2000AD. I kind of dip into it now again but while a lot of these stories had characters which were familiar, the stories were not.

However what we got here is more of the same. And that is actually a hell of a good thing. JD Case Files 11 & 12 just continues the high quality urban tongue in cheek sci-fi we have come to expect from writers John Wagner and Alan Grant and their team of top rate artists.

Volume 11 has everything from Read the rest of this entry »

Knight Rider Coming to Uk’s Sci-FI Channel in May

Posted by geeksyndicate on April 30, 2009

Thanks to the guys over at the Sci-fi channel UK for this.

Remember K.I.T.T.? – a.k.a. the Knight Industries Two Thousand, and simply the coolest crime-fighting car ever created? Well, it’s back in this high-octane, zappy sequel to the iconic ‘80s original. And, OK, this time things are a little different. It might not have The Hoff at the wheel (although he does make a cameo in the pilot episode) and it’s a 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang rather than a TransAm Pontiac, but now K.I.T.T.’s an even bigger beast in the fight against crime – and it’s got a new ‘voice’: superstar VAL KILMER!

What’s more, it’s undergone a complete revamp from its predecessor. This K.I.T.T.’s certainly got ‘eat my dirt’ written all over it in very big letters. Equipped with Artificial Intelligence, K.I.T.T. is now capable of hacking into almost any security system and has the weapons capability of a jet fighter. It can also morph into the shape of other vehicles and uses sophisticated holographic imagery to elude all manner of villains.

Knight Rider returns to the Sci Fi Channel on Tuesday 12th May @ 8pm as a 2-hour feature-length special, and follows weekly every Tuesday.

Comic Review : Oceanverse #01

Posted by geeksyndicate on April 30, 2009

Oceanverse Issue 1
So seeing as I’m an indy comics monkey myself I figured it was only fair I looked at another independent comic for my first review in a while. So the one I picked, by virtue of my wife having bought it, was Oceanverse, written and drawn by Michael Schwartz.

Ok, lets give you the short version. This book is fucking weird. BUT, and its an important “but” … its cool and weird. This first issue basically introduces us to the crew of the Red Herring, a submarine full of the types of adventurers you would get in 40s and 50s comics and movies. Granted, in the 40′s they never had a talking cow as the ship’s cook like in this book, but this does still have a cool retro feel to it. While not a parody on the old boys own adventure strips like Dan Dare and 20,000 Leagues under the Sea this does seem to give a nod to these whilst doing its own odd thing.

The first thing you will notice though is the weird layout in as much as the pages are all landscape, not portrait. This is due to each page having been originally published as two online webstrips and I was impressed that while each part has to be understandable as an of itself, it also all flowed together really well once collected.

This is a weird one for me to want to recommend as while I really enjoyed it, it was odd enough that I could see some people just not getting it. So what I would recommend is going to check out the webcomic first which you can do at Oceanverse.com and decide for yourself

Its definately worth a visit, and anyway, how often do you get to see someone punch out a swordfish?

It’s with a great deal of excitement that  Gosh! can now announce an upcoming appearance by two of Britain’s most revered and influential creators. Long Live The Nu Flesh!!: Videodrome To Be Remade.

Posted by roy3 on April 29, 2009

From Variety

Universal Pictures will remake the 1983 David Cronenberg-directed thriller “Videodrome,” with Ehren Kruger set to write the script and produce with partner Daniel Bobker.

The producers tracked down the rights to Canadian distribution vet Rene Malo, who will be exec producer. Universal distributed the original and had first refusal on a remake, and the studio snapped up the opportunity.

The original “Videodrome” starred James Woods as the head of Civic TV Channel 83, who makes his station relevant by programming “Videodrome,” a series that depicts torture and murder that transfixes viewers.

The new picture will modernize the concept, infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.

Why?

Wolverine Press Conference

Posted by geeksyndicate on April 29, 2009

On the 16th April I found myself being driven, along with a bus load of other journalists,  to an unknown location, where I saw stood with a whole heap of cooing women and ‘trying to play it cool men’ to see this.

GavinGavin Hood, the director make a leisurely stroll down the wall and doing the show man ship thing.  He was follwed by

HughHugh Jackman, who came down the wall so fast (he was obviously showing off) that this was the only shot I could get of him before he was literally mobbed by women and cameras.  We were then ushered into a room where the following press conference took place.

Here it is and I hope you like it wolverine-junket

Angels and Demons is nearly here

Posted by geeksyndicate on April 29, 2009

So with brand new haircut in tow (come on I couldn’t yet that dodgy cut from the Da Vinci code go that easily) Tom Hanks and Ron Howard are back with another Robert Langdon adventure. Despite that fact that it was pretty slow paced I enjoyed the Da Vinci Code So I’ll be checking out Angels and Demons.

The other draw for me was that out of the two books this was one that I found much more entertaining.

Anyway check out a few clips and featurettes from the film.
